about the center
The Jeanne Tannenbaum Center for Creative Practice at UNC Greensboro is a hub for creative, collaborative innovation and campus and community engagement. The Tannenbaum Center’s spaces, technology, and programs support faculty and community residencies, workshops, and public programs that ask big questions, solve problems, and build relationships.
Prioritizing process over product, the Tannenbaum Center fosters interdisciplinary experiences and partnerships that encourage participants to think and work differently—and share what they learn along the way. Conceived as a “third space” for generative dialogue and the hands-on development of ideas, the center will produce research, creative work, and campus and community programming relevant to a changing world.
The Tannenbaum Center vision became reality thanks to the generous support of Jeanne Tannenbaum ’64, who graduated from UNCG in 1964 with a Bachelor of Arts in economics. Jeanne went on to complete a Master’s in Hospital Administration at Duke University. She held key administrative and leadership roles in national hospitals including Boston Hospital for Women, Johns Hopkins Medical Center, and the Greenville Hospital System.
Jeanne Tannenbaum has served her alma mater for decades in various capacities – including service on the Excellence Foundation Board, Weatherspoon Art Museum Foundation Board, School of Nursing Advisory Board, Friends of the Library Board, and the Light the Way Campaign Cabinet. A prolific volunteer and advocate, Jeanne is committed to the betterment of the community, much like the Center that bears her name.

Vision
The Jeanne Tannenbaum Center for Creative Practice is founded on the understanding that art, participatory engagement, dialogue, and emerging technologies can transform lives and shape the future.
The Center advances UNCG’s commitment in creating opportunities for people from different backgrounds and disciplines to experiment, collaborate, and learn together.
Through residencies, fellowships, exhibitions, performances, professional development programs, and public events, the Center fosters creative exchange and encourages new ways of thinking about today’s most important issues.
Purpose
The purpose of the Jeanne Tannenbaum Center for Creative Practice is to enable thinkers and makers dedicated to excellence and innovation to create, learn, share, and connect.
Drawing participants from across the University, Greensboro, North Carolina, and beyond, the Center supports the development of ideas, research, and creative work that address both local and global challenges. At its core is a belief that creativity can drive meaningful discovery, collaboration, and change.

“Creative practice is an intentional and expansive concept. It implies moving beyond disciplinary silos and focusing on process rather than working towards a predetermined outcome.” – Associate Vice Chancellor for Museums and Creative Practice, Juliette Bianco
